Directing

I began directing through my teaching practice, specifically shows for my high school students such as Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory. Recently, I had the opportunity to adapt and direct a University mainstage performance entitled A Parting Glass with Lady Gregory. This performance was particularly special to me because I was able to share my love for Ireland with Canadian audiences and bring the work of this remarkable female playwright into the spotlight. Directing is an area of theatre practice I am looking forward to continuing.

Frankenstein

Directed by Rebekka M. Gondosch

I am thrilled to be directing an adaptation of this classic gothic tale with the incredible actors at Saltfleet Secondary School. After many years of limited live theatre in schools, it is ever-more exciting to support young actors as they step out onto the stage, some for the very first time!

Sound design by Jesse Horvath

The Redeemer Theatre Arts Department presents an evening of short plays and poetry by the Irish playwright Lady Augusta Gregory, a founding member of Ireland’s National Theatre. Through audio performances, visual storytelling, and music, this digital performance will bring a piece of Ireland to your hearts and homes.

This performance was originally intended to be a live stage production. Due to COVID-19 it was adapted into a radio play.

A Christmas Carol
adapted by Ed Monk

What made this particular show special was the involvement of students in all parts of the creative process. Visual arts students designed the set, one of our Theatre students choreographed the dance at Fezziwig’s party, our music director worked with students on the many musical elements of the show, and students from various disciplines worked as members of the crew.

Directing this show was a remarkable experience. My young actors rose to the challenge of sharing this powerful story and embodied their characters with brilliant commitment and compelling performances. Many of our actors took the stage for the first time in their high school experiences. Performing a feminist text was important to me, especially for my first high school directing experience.
